A native mid-westerner, I’ve lived in Georgia since 1984. Dale Slusher and I are the parents of two sons, David and James. We lived in Superior, NE and Norton, KS. After commuting to college for 2 1/2 years from Norton, KS to Hays, KS, I received my BA in English from Fort Hays State University in December 1979. I started teaching high school English in 1981. In 1992 I finished my MA, also at Fort Hays, followed by a Specialist in Education degree at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, MS in 1998.
I retired in 2006 after 25 years of service. That same year, after 3 years of widowhood, I married Bruce Stephens. Bruce, a retired first sergeant and retired salesman, was working on his degree in English at the University of South Carolina which he received in 2007.
I am currently taking sign language classes. I also volunteer at church and participate in Bible study and a book club. I even joined a garden club last year. I thoroughly enjoy retirement since I now can do all the things I never had the time for when I worked.
