My mother would be so proud. Hamilton Beach was, to her, the Cadillac brand of appliances.

She was also a consummate canner. She never had a "Mr Beach" for those chores, allowing that " she could chop as good as any machine". I think the cost of a Mr Beach put her off a bit. But, when it came to putting food by, Mom was a champ.

It's great to read about folks still putting food by. Keep that alive.

I've been reading through your blog and love every posting. I am also a big movie fan. If you like English history movies, check out "The Other Boleyn Girl" that came out in 2008 and is now on DVD! Great costumes and scenery, etc.

Wow, it is almost as good as the day Steve won enough money at Keno and horse races to buy my 1988 Olds. I only had to come up with $1300. He has not done that since either. We start racing 2/13 in Grand Island. Have five we will be running.

The Kathy & Dale holiday tradition I remember is more New Year's Day related: the shrimp dip.

I remember you sending us a six-pack of that shrimp soup, an essential ingredient, one year when we were unable to find it.

Now that we can get the soup part, we only need one can at a time, being empty nesters and all. But we still make it every January 1, and enjoy that while the Hoppin' John simmers.

If you'd care to share that cookie recipe, please send it to my little bride. She doesn't eat sweets, and heaven knows I don't need them, but I'll sacrifice my physique.

Merry Christmas!
